Ivy Penn is a director whose past projects have been shown at the Nickelodeon Studio Theater, American Cinematheque, and Lazarus Studios. Born in Columbia, Maryland, and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Ivy is a film and creative director with a focus on comedic and genre work that brings diverse communities together. She graduated with honors double majoring in business, and speculative design, The integration of design and emerging technology. Through her work with the Nickelodeon Artist & Writing Programs and in her current role as the coordinator of the creative programs at NBCUniversal, she has helped launch the careers of dozens of artists, writers, and directors from underrepresented communities.
Unconventionally, Ivy's passion for Film and TV was ignited through illustration. Her childhood was filled with the joy of reading webcomics and bringing characters to life through her drawings, which eventually led her to the world of animation. However, her creative journey didn't stop there. As she delved into filmmaking, she realized her characters could transcend the page and come alive in live-action. Today, as a director, she weaves stories that look like they have been ripped right out of a comic book.
